Shamrock Club Cookbook

We’re creating a spiral-bound cookbook similar to the “Steppin’ Out in Pink” cookbook produced by Jumbo Jack’s Cookbooks of Audubon, Iowa. The quality of their cookbooks is very good and their payment terms are simple.

The cookbook is meant to raise funs for the SHAMROCK CLUB, share personal recipe favorites and expand Irish culture and heritage. The intention is to sell recipes at Irishfest and on the Shamrock Club website.

Cookbooks generally cost $3-6 each to print, and we could easily sell them for $10-12 each. Cookbooks are an affordable keepsake for friends and family, and ours would be both entertaining and informative due to the inherently wise and quick-witted nature of the Club members :)

Time is on our side as Irishfest is five months away, but deadlines are critical for a project like this – lead-time is 2-3 months. If the membership approves the project we’d like to begin immediately.

Recipes do NOT need to be Irish – there will be a section specifically for Irish recipes!

Timeline

April 10……………..  deadline for hand-written recipes (see address below)
April 25 ……………  deadline for typed (e-mailed) recipes (see address below)
May 1 ……………...  delivery of all materials to Jumbo Jacks
August 1…………..  latest delivery of cookbooks to us
August 7-9………… Irishfest

Content

Besides the inclusion of recipes, personal anecdotes about trips to Ireland, facts about Ireland, translations, jokes, lore, etc. would be included.

It would be fantastic to get some recipes from our friends in Bantry. We’re hoping that Linda would facilitate this process.

Layout

Color Cover: Including Shamrock Club logo, 2-3 photos of Ireland
and title. Liz will be going home soon and will bring back some lovely digital photos for Shelli to use for the cover.

Intro Page: Info about the history and activities of the SHAMROCK CLUB.
Lists of Past Irish Roses, Irish Men and Club Presidents.

Each section of the book has a divider page; on these pages we will put our miscellany. We can also spread it through the recipe pages like little gems. Additional sections may be added depending on what sort of recipes are collected.

Liz brings her vast knowledge of Irish heritage and culinary skills to the project; Shelli brings fundraising/organizing and graphic art experience. We hope the Club members and friends are generous with recipes and anecdotes for the cookbook!

If you’re “borrowing” a recipe verbatim from another book you must note that resource with the recipe.
